                                                                                        Job Title: Staff Accountant - Payroll                                                                                                                                           Job Summary Perform various payroll accounting duties including payroll tax preparation, review, and filing; preparing, entering, reviewing journal entries; reviewing general ledger accounts; and creating reports for internal and external stakeholders.  Research and assist with the implementation of new and revised payroll laws.  Perform other related work.   Typical Duties and Responsibilities - Perform reviews of payroll-related general ledger accounts. - Validate earnings payable to employees as stated in collective bargaining agreements. - Review and approve corrections to employee pay. - Analyze monthly accruals. - Verification of timely and accurate tax payments. - Review and reconcile quarterly tax filings. - Review annual tax reconciliations. - Research payroll implications of new laws related to pay (sick, vacation, hours worked) and withholdings. - Prepare and file amendments of state and federal tax / wage returns. - Assist with audits, such as gathering data for annual financial and compliance audits. - Coordinate bonus preparation. - Ensure assigned deadlines are met (projects, internal financial reporting deadlines, or statutory deadlines for tax, mandatory reporting, etc.). - Review procedures and suggest process improvements. - Construct custom data requests. - Perform other duties as assigned.                                                                               Requirements Education: - Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field OR combined equivalent education, training, and experience.    Experience: - Creating, posting, reviewing and approving journal entries. - Researching accounting differences. - Computing tax payments, completing tax forms, and reconciling tax entries. - Researching payroll tax laws and making recommendations for implementation. - Interpreting and analyzing financial information. - Applying strong analytical and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail. - Demonstrating the ability to train and lead. - Working with software to extrapolate data, validate inputs, and confirm results. - Demonstrating excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. - Demonstrating advanced technical proficiency with Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook software. - Demonstrating good communication skills. - Handling confidential issues in a professional and discreet manner.   Ability to: - Be extremely self-motivated. - Work under pressure to meet deadlines of a variety of simultaneous workloads. - Manage multiple priorities and assess to adjust quickly as conditions warrant or priorities change. - Exhibit exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, critical thinking, and initiative. - Write and speak clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings. - Perform all tasks with integrity and extreme confidentiality. - Establish and maintain good rapport with co-workers, supervisors, and others. - Sit for extended periods of time. - Perform primary duties with efficiency and accuracy. - Work independently with minimal supervision. - Be resilient, receptive and responsive to performance feedback.   Machines and Equipment Operated: - Office machines (computer terminal, copier/scanner, 10-key, fax machine, telephone, etc.) and other devices   Preferred Education, Experience and/or Credentials: - Financial reporting (GAAP) and general ledger experience preferred   The above statements are intended to describe the general nature of work performed by the employees assigned to this job.  All employees must comply with Company policies and applicable laws.  The responsibilities, duties and qualifications required of personnel may vary.
