Job Summary

Responsible for the overall administration of centralized leaves and accommodations processes. Works in partnership with corporate and regional Human Resource, Store and Distribution Center Management to identify and escalate major risk concerns. Oversees a team of analysts who are responsible for the day to day administration of the centralized processes. Creates strategic plans to promote and enforce compliance with state and federal laws in addition to company policies impacting business operations, employees and managers. Manages compliance specific to WinCo Foods reasonable accommodation and protected leave program. Consistently provides friendly, courteous customer service to internal and external customers. Additionally, this role provides policy interpretation, leave/accommodation transaction guidance, and problem solving for direct reports.



Typical Duties and Responsibilities


  • Manage the WinCo Foods leave management team and processes associated with disability and protected leave management to adhere with state and federal requirements and labor agreement provisions to ensure policies are applied accurately and consistently across the organization.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for the team on FMLA, ADA and other pertinent laws and regulations, providing sound guidance and direction to the team on the most complex of leave and accommodation cases.
  • Works closely and effectively with internal partners in Human Resources, Legal, Payroll, Benefits, IT, and other teams to ensure compliance and provide optimal service delivery while maintaining a stellar level of customer service.
  • Partner with other HR groups for consistent implementation on HR-related compliance and disability management policies, procedures and processes to ensure compliance with governmental and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Coach leaders and staff as to best practices related to providing reasonable accommodations under the ADA and protected leaves.
  • Manage reasonable accommodation and leave process across the Company in a consistent, compliant manner. Manages complex policy exceptions and service issue escalations to root cause and resolution.
  • Drive change management in rollout of new programs and ongoing continuous improvement in processes and procedures.
  • Partner with third party administrator(s) to oversee, streamline and manage services provided.
  • Develop and provide training inside and outside of department.
  • Ensure all reporting and audit requirements are fulfilled.
  • Work with corporate counsel, outside legal counsel, vendors, HR Directors, Store Management, Distribution Center Management, the Executive Team, and other HR business partners, as needed, to develop, manage and administer reasonable accommodations and leaves.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed.




  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource or related field OR combined equivalent education, training and experience demonstrating good knowledge of Human Resources compliance


  • 3+ years’ experience years managing and administering requests for accommodations, leaves of absence, and FMLA (preferably in CA, OR & WA).
  • Excellent customer service skills with an ability to answer questions tactfully and diffuse difficult situations with employees and managers.
  • Preferred experience in employing the use of assistive technology in the manufacturing, retail or warehouse environment.
  • Demonstrating working knowledge of Windows Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).

  • Excellent communications ability, with highly developed business writing and editing skills. Demonstrated proficiency in clearly articulating messages and programs both verbally and in writing.
  • Write and speak clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings, using sound judgement in all communication.
  • Perform all tasks with integrity and extreme confidentiality, handling confidential information with the highest level of discretion.
  • Work well on a team and assume additional responsibilities as requested.
  • Accept and facilitate change, whether indicated by corporate needs, market or regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain a high level of efficiency and accuracy in all matters.
  • Effectively prioritize and perform a variety of simultaneous tasks (multi-tasking) in a high-pressure environment, demonstrating initiative and self-direction to complete tasks within expected deadlines or defined time estimates with utmost attention to accuracy.
  • Occasionally work evenings and weekends in order to meet deadlines
  • Travel to meet business needs as required.

  • Office machines (computer terminal, copier/scanner, 10-key, fax machine, telephone, etc.)
