Assist the Director of Space Management in planning, coordinating and managing the design and implementation of Store Plans and planogram layouts to maximize retail store space, sales, profit, and shopping convenience for customers and a safe professional working environment for employees. This position will manage the space management team to support and implement department initiatives, and ensure the day to day business is running according to schedule. Perform related work.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
Manage the space management department, ensuring compliance with WinCo Foods Company Policies, State and Federal Laws.
Supervise and mentor a team of Floor Planners, Analysts, Specialists, Merchandisers and augmentation resources such as contractors and vendors; accepts responsibility for delegated decision making.
Supervise, motivate and provide leadership in the department including hiring, training, coaching and delegating responsibilities. Document substandard performance and take corrective action including formal discipline and termination when necessary.
Train and develop Floor Planners, Analysts, Specialists and Merchandisers on internal and industry best practices to increase sales, profit, productivity, and skills inventory.
Maintains a safe environment for employees thereby controlling general liability and workers’ compensation costs.
Lead with enthusiasm and a positive attitude toward fellow employees as well as customers. Set an example of personal integrity, appearance and ethical business practices which provides a standard of conduct for all store personnel. Leads by example.
Monitor employee effectiveness and productivity and ensures efficient labor utilization in the space management department.
Evaluate and implement store merchandising plans.
Perform delegated Director of Space Management responsibilities in the absence of Director of Space Management or as assigned.
Understand and implement systems, tools and processes used in the Space Management organization.
Manage active floorplans database and work with Floor Planners and Engineering in supporting the store plan process.
Oversees database planogram and floor plan integrity for all categories. Manage the active planogram library and work with supporting teams in the development of relevant planograms that support the needs of existing formats and micro-clustering reviews.
Analyze space performance and develop space productivity reports.
Lead ongoing process improvement and reduction of planogram and floorplan errors.
Performs other duties as assigned or needed.
Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising or related field OR equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
At least 5 years of experience in Retail, Sales, and/or Category Management and/or analyzing related data such as space to sales trends, assortment selections, or financial planning OR a Bachelor’s and at least 2 years of experience.
Communicating with co-workers and customers and following written instructions.
Demonstrating an understanding of overall policies and practices through previous retail experience.

Interacting with retail executive management in corporate level Merchandising and Operations
Demonstrating thorough understanding of Store Planning process for new stores and remodels.
Merchandising in a variety of different retail settings, specifically how planograms are used at the store level and how store sets/resets are conducted.
Exhibiting a strong understanding of financial calculations.
Demonstrating a knowledge and functionality of JDA Space Planning and Floor Planning, Category Management and/or leading Space Management or publication software.
Knowledge of Retail Mathematics.
Leading by example; maintaining standards and holding others accountable.
Perform any duties and responsibilities required at a fully competent and independent level.
Perform supervisory skills (e.g., interviewing, scheduling, hiring, counseling, training, disciplining, etc.).
Conduct visual inspections and read reports, manuals, etc.
Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with fellow employees, outside contacts, user groups and vendors.

Travel extensively for extended periods of time.
Work graveyard / overnight and weekend schedules as required depending on project needs.
Obtain necessary certification to safely and efficiently operate required equipment including powered industrial forklifts and electric pallet jacks.
Lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally, bend at waist and twist upper body frequently, repetitive use of hands continually.
Perform primary duties with efficiency and accuracy.
Acceptable Department of Motor Vehicles driving record.

Forklift, Electric Pallet Jack, Push Carts
Preferred Education, Experience and/or Credentials:
Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising or closely related Business field.
Experience and/or certification in current space management tools such as JDA Space Planning, Floor Planning, Intactix Knowledge Base (IKB), Data Manager, Planogram Generator, and AutoCAD.
Experience demonstrating a thorough understanding of overall WinCo policies and practices in a leadership role.
