Overview

Job Summary

 

Processes AP interfaced entries for capitalized assets into Asset Management, creating and entering journal entries, reconciling accounts and applying appropriate depreciable lives to capitalized assets. Oversee work performed by other supporting fixed asset accounting. Consistently provides friendly, courteous customer service to internal and external customers. Perform other related work.

 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis of taking care of the customer. Provide exceptional customer service with users by telephone, email, and in person.
  • Perform basic accounting activities for fixed assets; balance books and ledgers.
  • Research, analyze and report on variances against historical financial data.
  • Design & build general ledger reports, edit existing general ledger reports.
  • Create monthly and quarterly Financials and board reports for presentation to Assistant Controller, Controller for review.
  • Oversee and review invoice information interfaced from accounts payable into asset management to determine applicability of capitalization policies.
  • Oversee and enter the asset specific information into Lawson Asset Management and ensure an asset was created and the appropriate entry was posted to the General Ledger.
  • Oversee and run various asset management related processes so that asset additions, deletions and depreciation are properly recorded in the General Ledger. Reconcile AM balances to the GL.
  • Review entries coded into the construction in progress account to see if the cost should be capitalized. .
  • Review assigned depreciation methods in asset management. Ensure that appropriate lives and depreciation methods are assigned for all of the books (Financial, Tax, State etc.)
  • Verify that the various tax asset books are reconciled and the financial book is balanced to the General Ledger.
  • Oversee the company car fleet and related activities (i.e. registration, fuel/maintenance, accident claims, acquisitions, sale, etc.)
  • Oversee the capital and operating lease activities utilizing Lawson Lease Management.
  • Performs all job duties and responsibilities with honesty and integrity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

 Requirements

Education:

  • Associates degree in finance, accounting or a business related field OR an equivalent combination of education, certification and experience.

 

Experience:

  • Formal training in property accounting or other business related field.
  • Effectively managing time and prioritizing a multitude of concurrent projects, phone calls and tasks, while ensuring deadlines are being met.
  • Demonstrating strong analytical and problem solving skills with close attention to detail in order to effectively monitor progress and complete assignments.
  • Applying research skills and knowledge of capitalization policy for federal tax and GAAP financial reporting purposes.
  • Utilizing excellent verbal, written and inter-personal communication skills to establish and maintain a good rapport with co-workers, Supervisors, store personnel and vendors.
  • Demonstrating proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

Ability to:

  • Consistently provide world class customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Utilize excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.      
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality with sensitive information.
  • Be self-directed and demonstrate excellent time management skills.
  • Sit for extended periods of time.
  • Lift office materials, books, binder etc. (typically 10-15 lbs.)
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity for typing, 10-key, collating, data input, paper sorting, etc.

 

Machines and Equipment Operated:

  • Office machines (e.g., copy machine, computer terminal, telephone, fax, etc) and other devices.

Preferred Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Accounting or Finance.
  • Financial reporting and general ledger accounting experience preferred.
