Job Summary
Responsible to ensure all inbound shipments of produce meet or exceed company quality standards and fully comply with all federal safety and food regulations. Lead in the development and daily management of the company’s quality control system, processes and oversee staff performing quality control inspections. Perform other related duties.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the Quality Control inspections during the receiving and unloading of inbound produce and produce product shipments.
- Inspect daily inbound produce shipments for quality and freshness utilizing appropriate testing methods such as visual, temperature, cutting, tasting, pressure tests and brix (sugar) in a cold storage environment.
- Ensure WinCo Foods grading, and specification standards are met along with USDA and FDA standards on all accepted shipments of produce. Read and interpret quality control manuals specifying federal guidelines for produce quality and acceptance.
- Coordinate rejection of any inbound shipment that falls below established quality standards, including documentation, return of product and billing credits.
- Change expiration dates of inspected product based on condition and ripeness, when necessary.
- Coordinate FDA recalls of produce; communicate action to be taken with Warehouse Management, V.P of Produce, Stores and Buyers as needed. Ensure all necessary records and reports supporting recalls and quality control rejections are prepared timely and effectively maintained.
- Coordinate and maintain order pick slot availability on an on-going basis. Assign permanent order pick slots for new produce items.
- Conduct daily visual audits of all produce order pick slots, identify and address issues such as, rotation of product, expiration dates, damaged product, needed repairs and sanitation.
- Oversee employees assigned to perform quality control functions. Assess relevant training needs for individuals; coach, train and develop as necessary. Document substandard performance and work with the employees direct supervisor to take corrective action including formal discipline when necessary.
- Address and resolve issues from stores.
- Oversee auditing of incoming produce for proper counts and codes.
- Ensure that all safety procedures and policies are followed. Ensure the efficient and safe operation of material handling power equipment and certification requirements have been met.
- Supervise the banana operations including; projections, receiving, inspecting and selecting product to be shipped out to the stores.
- Performs other duties as assigned or needed.
Requirements
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
- Have a detailed working knowledge of FDA and USDA quality control standards for produce product.
- Demonstrating skills in leadership, organization and communication.
- Demonstrating strong analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail in order to effectively monitor progress and complete assignments.
- Demonstrating knowledge of host, PC and internet-based software applications including Microsoft Office software; (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Utilizing strong proficiency with numerical data and calculations.
Ability to:
- Apply working knowledge of material handling principals, practices and standards of warehousing.
- Apply working knowledge of employment law and employee relations to workplace situations including discipline and attendance.

- Computer terminal, office equipment (telephone, fax, copier, scanner, etc.), Radio Frequency (RF) guns and other devices.
- Knives, scales, penetrometer, temperature probes, fork lifts, standup transporter pallet jack.
