Overview

Job Summary

 

Responsible for implementation, configuration, maintenance, administration and integrity of software tools, utilities and processes used to support IT desktop infrastructure.  Serve as a project resource for production implementation and integration. Assist with the implementation and optimization of hardware and software solutions that address end user computing needs. Consistently provides friendly, courteous customer service to internal and external customers.  Perform other related work.

 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis of taking care of the customer. Provide exceptional customer service with users by telephone, email, and in person.
  • Work with end users to isolate and diagnose and repair technology related equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain the physical and virtual desktop infrastructure and related applications.
  • Install, configure, test, maintain and troubleshoot workstations, thin clients, network equipment, pc's, wireless devices, and similar technology.
  • Plan and schedule the installation of hardware, operating systems, and software applications.
  • Maintain Desktop, Laptop, and Thin client OS images for effective deployment.
  • Manage systems resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.
  • Make recommendations to IT management on the purchase of software, tools and utilities.
  • Perform configuration, administration and customization of operational software, systems, utilities, and processes.
  • Coordinate with 3rd party support and equipment vendors.
  • Regularly patch all 3rd party applications and operating systems supporting end users.
  • Perform ongoing analysis of daily operations to identify issues and recommend changes to increase operational efficiency and quality of service.
  • Configure, test, and install end user applications.
  • Create documentation for new processes and procedures.
  • Maintain an inventory of spare parts for all equipment serviced.
  • Participate in discussions with vendors and contractors to secure products and services.
  • Work with IT groups and vendor support personnel for problem resolution and configuration.
  • Collaborate with other IT groups to ensure timely deployment of patches.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose technology problems; repair and replace faulty components; perform periodic testing and preventive maintenance; ensure the regularly scheduled maintenance activities are appropriately performed and logged.
  • Serve as backup to other Desktop Administrators as needed.
  • Update and maintain PCI documentation as required.
  • Performs other projects and duties as needed and assigned.

Requirements

Education:

  • Associates degree in an IT related field OR combination education, training and experience in addition to experience listed below.

Experience:

  • At least three (3) years’ work experience supporting end user computing in an enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrating proficiency in Change management methodologies.
  • Demonstrating proficiency in Software installation and methods.
  • Effectively working with product vendors and support personnel.
  • Providing excellent customer service skills, working well with others and demonstrating professionalism and courtesy in all customer interactions.
  • Working knowledge of desktop/thin client management software.
  • Demonstrating general knowledge of operating systems, computers, networks, and software.
  • Demonstrating strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
  • Utilizing strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Efficiently prioritizing and executing tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Demonstrating initiative and self-direction.

Ability to:

  • Consistently provide world class customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Communicate effectively both written and verbal.
  • Convey ideas in a logical order and professional manner.
  • Analyze and diagnose technical problems
  • Multi-task effectively, and maintain composure in a fast paced IT environment.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of networking concepts, principles, and trouble-shooting.

  • Self-motivated and directed with the ability to perform without appreciable direction.
  • Lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand for a prolonged period of time.

Machines and Equipment Operated:

  • Office machines (computer terminal, copier/scanner, fax machine, telephone etc.).
  • Hand and power tools.
  • Push carts, hand trucks.

Preferred Education, Experience and/or Credentials:

  • Experience with Microsoft System Center and SCCM.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an IT related field.
  • ITIL Foundations certificate.
  • Five (5) years’ work experience as a Desktop Administrator.
  • One (1) or more industry recognized certification, such as: Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP), Comptia A+/Network+, Apple Certified Technician.
