Overview

Job Summary

 

The Business Continuity Manager is responsible for developing, maintaining, and executing the company’s Business Continuity Program (BCP) with a focus on IT systems and operational resilience. This role collaborates with IT leadership and business unit leaders to create and test BCP run-books, ensuring that critical IT and business functions can recover quickly from disruptions. In the event of an actual crisis, this individual will serve as the incident/crisis response owner, coordinating response efforts and providing executive-level status updates.

 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Owns the Business Continuity Program (BCP) by developing, maintaining, and safely archiving business continuity plans and procedures across all business units, with an emphasis on IT recovery and resilience.
  • Leads regularly scheduled BCP dry-run exercises with business and IT leadership to validate plan effectiveness and ensure documentation is current and actionable.
  • Acts as the crisis response lead in the event of an actual business disruption, coordinating response efforts, invoking BCPs, and managing cross-functional communication.
  • Collaborates with IT teams to develop and implement disaster recovery (DR) strategies, ensuring alignment between business needs and IT capabilities.
  • Works with cybersecurity and compliance teams to align business continuity planning with regulatory requirements, cybersecurity protocols, and data protection standards.
  • Conducts business impact analyses (BIA) and risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Develops and delivers training programs for staff to ensure preparedness and awareness of business continuity protocols.
  • Provides regular updates to leadership and stakeholders on BCP program status, testing results, and areas for improvement.
  • Manages vendor relationships and external partnerships related to business continuity, IT disaster recovery, and crisis management services.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience in business continuity, disaster recovery, or IT risk management
  • Experience developing, testing, and executing business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
  • Strong IT knowledge, including systems resilience, cybersecurity best practices, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Experience in incident/crisis management, emergency response, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong team leadership, relationship-building, and cross-functional management experience.
  • Strong analytical ability to gather, interpret, and act on information related to business continuity risks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).

Ability to:

  • Be available to respond to urgent matters, including after business hours, on weekends, and holidays.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of leadership, including executives, IT teams, and business unit leaders.
  • Stay calm and lead under pressure during high-stress crisis situations.
  • Think strategically about business continuity risks and develop actionable plans to mitigate them.

Preferred Education, Experience and/or Credentials:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Certifications such as Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP), ITIL, CISSP, or Certified Risk Manager (CRM).
  • Experience with business continuity software, IT disaster recovery tools, and risk management platforms.
